Our Mission
The Mission of the Recovery Support Network is to provide a safe, sober, and structured home environment to women during their early recovery from substance abuse, either alone or with their children. The geographic focus of the organization is within Washington County, Maine.
We are structuring the Network as a non-profit organization made up of individual, family, and business or church members. The Network will be governed by a Board of Directors, elected annually by the members. Members will either pay a modest annual fee or donate time or materials. The intent is to be as inclusive as possible, working towards a shared vision of strengthening our community.
The Network will work with other existing local entities to coordinate - rather than duplicate - services to women and their children. Washington County is rich in opportunity, individuals who care, and a host of valuable services to foster a healthy and productive life.
Why This Is So Important
Every child needs and deserves a parent who is present for them, and looking out for their well being. Mothers with alcohol or addiction disorders are not always able to care for their children as needed. However, with the right tools, support systems, and time they can achieve long-term recovery and better care for themselves and their children.
Washington County has too many women and children struggling and in need of a safe, sober, and structured home environment.
Who We Are
This is a grassroots and local effort supported by the citizens, churches and businesses of the county. Our group includes treatment providers, health care professionals, ministers, probation officers, legislators, domestic violence advocates, and most importantly, women in recovery who understand the great need for this kind of home.
We first gathered in September 2006, and are still in the early stages of development.
